Types of Port:

Ruby - youngest, sweetest, lowest priced; serve cold, possibly as an aperitif, will not improve in bottle. Examples: 6 Grapes (Graham), Warrior Reserve (Warre), Founder's Reserve (Sandeman)
Tawny - loses color with 5+ years in oak, chill slightly, drier taste, will not improve in bottle; may be aged as a blend of vintages for 10-40 years for a very good, smooth, creamy character (lable will show average age of wine in the blend)
Vintage - 2 years in oak, improves with age, usually left for 10+ years, most costly, single year but a mix of vineyards
Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) - not the best years but a single year, tawny in color after 4-6 years in cask; will not improve in bottle, flavor and aroma characteristics follow Vintage; label shows year of bottling
