Tasting Notes

Montagny is in the southern Côte Chalonnaise, south of Rully, that only produces white wines (100% Chardonnay). 60% is classified as premier cru, described as tasing
somewhere between a Chablis and Côte de Beaune Chardonnay. 2019 was an excellent vintage.

Faiveley wa founded in 1825, headquarted in Nuits St. Georges. It is now run by the 7th generation of the family and is one of Burgundy's major landowners. It owns 120 Hectares, including 12 Grand Crus and 25 Premier Crus. "Les Cazetiers" is one of their largest and more prized Premier Crus. With 4 hectares, they are the largest owner of this property, which borders Clos St. Jacques. Vintage notes: 1998 - Fully mature with earthy, notes (92 BH); 2001 - Classic, elegant vintage (92 BH); 2009 stilky, complicated (93 BH); 2015 - Powerhouse, highly rated, full bodied with firm tannins (92-95 BH).

New Zealand has over 210 vineyards across 13 distinct wine growing regions. The first vineyard were planted in 1819 by missionaries. In the 1980s they started to
produce outstanding Sauvignon blancs, which gained international recognition. By 2005, th Central Otago wine region started producing world class Pinot
noirs. Centra Otago is the world's southernmost wine region. Top producers are: Valli, Felton Road, Burn Cottage, Prophet's Rock and Rippon. Felton Road was first planted in 1992 in the Bannoncockburn region. It now has 34 hectatres panted with 70% Pinot Noir. Cornish Point is one of their single vineyard Pinots with generally a more generous, full flavored profile.

Tasmania wine country is a cool maritime climate with a long, mild growing season that produces wines with high natural acidity, elegance and ageing potential. Known especially for sparking wines, Pinot Nair and Chardonnay. Tasmania is considered a single wine region but is comprises seven distinct grape growin areas. Over 40% are planted with Pinot Noir. The Tolpuddle Vineyard in the Coal River Valley was first planted in 1988 to supply Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Demaine Chandon in Australia. The property was purchased in 2011 by 2 renowned Australian winemakers. Their first release was in 2013. They vineyard first gained awards for their Chardonnays, but now the Pinots are considered among the best from Tasmania. The 2022 Tolpuddle Pinot is a young, structured, powerful Pinot from an
excellent vintage (97 WA).

Oregon vine were first planted around 1847. The modern wine industry started in 1961 whe a UC Davis graduate plants a variety of wine varietals including Pinot
Noir. The "Pinot Noir Era" began in 1965 with David Lett of Eyrie Vineyards in Willamette valley. During the 1970s and 1980s pinot production expands greatly
across Willamette Valley. In 1979 Oregon Pinot places in a French wine tasting. In 1980, there were 34 bonded Oregon wineries and in 1988 the Oregon Wine
Advisory Board established various AVA Valleys which includes Willamette, Umpqua, Columbia and Walla Walla. By 2015, region had 702 wineries. It is important to note that in the Willamette valley the average temperature over the past 30 years has risen by 2 degrees Fahrenheit with significantly warmer summers and less extreme winters. The 2008 John Thomas is a highly regarded Pinot from an excellent vintage and a cult winemaker. 2018 Cristom "Jesse Vineyard" is a classic southern Willamette Valley (Eola-Amity AVA} producer. Jesse is one of their 5 estate vineyards with steep east-facing slopes that produce small berries and lower yields. The vineyard typically produces Chistom's most powerful and structured wines (99 WS).

California Wine Country began in 1769 by Spanish missionaries. By the 1920s Russian and Spanish settlers planted numerous vinyards around Sonoma. Napa
Valley begins wine production in 1861. Everything changed in 1976 with the judgement in Paris. The major wine regions are Napa, Sonoma, Central Coast and
Paso Robles. The best Pinot Noir areas are Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and the Central Coast (e.g., Santa Lucia Highlands). Burt Williams and Ed Selyem started their Russian River winery in 1979. They focused on "Burgundy-style" Pinet Noir from designated vineyards. Their Rochioci Vineyard Pinot won top prize at the California State Fair, establishing the RRV as a world class Pinot region.
